Titchwell Marshes

Like so many other nature reserves, Titchwell Marshes is one that just keeps on giving. We spent 2 quite different days here in June 2024. The first picture below is almost the last one I took and is of a turtle dove. I have only ever seen 2 others at Frampton Marshes a few years ago so this was a special moment. Thankfully this one was not alone. Making good use of the supplemental feed provided at the reserve was a family of red legged partridge with at least 9 chicks. The third image is of a bumble bee orchid.

Avocets seem happy to let their chicks wonder off, unlike black headed gulls who kept their chicks close. This did not stop what I think is a herring gull flying through their defences and taking a chick.

The linnet had got itself into difficulties inside a hide but it was absolutely fine and about to regain its freedom with a little bit of help. Here are images of other sightings over the two days.
