Sculthorpe Moor
The Hawk and Owl Trust Sculthorpe Moor reserve, located in north Norfolk, is a beautiful reserve and should be on everyone’s must visit list. This 200-acre site has 7 photographer friendly hides across a range of managed landscapes including meadow, wood, fen and wetland habitats. It is fully accessible via its well-kept boardwalks and hides. The walks through the various landscapes are stunning and the 2 full days we spent here in June 2025 where barely enough. We will certainly return. Did I mention the birds?
Our list of sightings included: Bullfinch, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Nuthatch, Stock Dove, Swift, Cettis Warbler, Great White Egret, Hobby, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Marsh Tit, Moorhen, Oystercatcher, Pheasant, Reed Bunting, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Robin, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Chiff Chaff, Coal Tit, Collared Dove, Buzzard, Egyption Goose, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Greenfinch, Grey Heron, Greylag Goose, Song Thrush, Swallow, Lapwing, Jay, Reed Bunting, Mallard, Marsh Harrier and Long Tailed Tit.
The Merlin app also picked up Skylark, Cuckoo, Wren, Mistle Thrush, Whitethroat, Great Reed Warbler, Tree Sparrow and Icterine Warbler as well as an Osprey.
Here are images of just a few of the birds which entertained us for hours and helped to make this visit so enjoyable.
