RSPB Loch Leven

This has to be one of the most colourful reserves we have been to. The steps in the image below lead you from the visitor centre, through the underpass to the hides, the wild flower meadow and bumble bee sanctuary. There are so many different flowers and the reserve is literally buzzing. It’s a real sensory experience – at the right time of year of course.

Beyond the bumble bee sanctuary are the hides. There is a large black headed gull colony as well as this being an important nesting site for a number of waders, including lapwing and redshank.

There are a couple of other walks, the sleeping giant trial, or up through the wood to the top of the hill from where there are spectacular views across the Loch. So much to see and photograph, its stunning. Once again, thank you RSPB.

I just couldn’t resist including this one. My husband Mike, who used to be a rock climber, conquering the beast of the hill all for this stunning view. Or was it his impersonation of Braveheart – I can’t quite remember!
