Orkney Islands

The Orkney Islands. A photographer’s dream with the sun above the horizon for 18.5 hours on mid-summer’s day. So it’s windy and it rains a lot but there are hides and some of the best opportunities for taking good pictures happen when you are a passenger and being driven over the moors. Just make sure you are camera ready.
Orkney has it all. Inspirational landscapes, Neolithic monuments, stunning sunsets and incredible wildlife. That’s not to say that Orkney’s wildlife is cocooned from the perils of the outside outside world. It is not. But it does reflect how the UK mainland used to be. Photographers have a unique opportunity of recording the decline of our landscapes and wildlife and getting the message across to family and friends that we have a responsibility to do all we can to help nature recover.
