Cabacera del Rio Genil

Cabacera del Rio Genil (or head of the river Genil) lies 6 km east of Granada in Spain and 1,370 meters above sea level. It is 31 January 2023. As we leave Granada, we see the peaks of the mountains covered in snow in front of us. The country road to the village of Pinos Genil is very picturesque and the campervan park up is next to Hotel/Restaurant Labella Maria. What more could we ask for. This was perfect.

With clear mountain air and pure mountain water this is an ideal place to come and search for the birds that call this habitat their home. The first image is a glimpse of the river and this is followed by images of some of the species we encountered. Other species we saw here include Siskin, Blackcap, Spanish Sparrow, Blackbird and Mallard. In the summer they are joined by Golden Oriel, Turtle Dove, Nightingale, Pied Flycatcher, Spotted Flycatcher and Red-backed Shrike to name but a few.
