Scamandre 2025

Centre de découverte du Scamandre is located in western Camargue. It comprises of around 146 ha of mainly water, marshes and reed beds and is said to be one of the most important bird areas in the Camargue. We spent three days exploring this huge area and could have spent much longer here. The amount and diversity of the wildlife is phenomenal. The Purple Heron we saw here is shown on a separate page.

Below are some of the birds, invertebrates and other creatures we saw here, two of my favourites being the Black Kite and the Red Crested Pochard.
